Short Play Showcase

Our Short Play Showcase features work from five playwrights, all current or former WMU students who are publishing writers. These playwrights have won WMU Frostic awards, been honored by the Kennedy Center at the regional and national levels, and their work can be read in nationally syndicated publications, among other places. Our lineup includes short dramas from Emilie Helmbold, Gray Hopkins, Sofía Méndez-Ramírez, Nicole Mullis, and Kristen Field, exploring the nuances of love, identity, acceptance, and deep existential rage. They take place on street corners, in grocery stores, on the ice, and in homes that defy the rules of space and time, featuring a wide variety of characters, from penguins to closeted conversative news anchors. Join us for a night of theatre that explores the complexity of our human condition and how we might move forward with a little more curiosity and hope for the world around us.
