About The Event
Our Short Play Showcase features work from five playwrights, all current or former WMU students who are publishing writers. These playwrights have won WMU Frostic awards, been honored by the Kennedy Center at the regional and national levels, and their work can be read in nationally syndicated publications, among other places. Our lineup includes short dramas from Emilie Helmbold, Sofía Méndez-Ramírez, Nicole Mullis, Kate Setzer, and Kristen Field, exploring the nuances of love, identity, acceptance, and deep existential rage. They take place in grocery stores, tired homes, and conversion camps for queer youth, featuring a wide variety of characters, from abuelitas to disgruntled counselors and more. Join us for a night of theatre that explores the complexity of our human condition and how we might chart forward with a single candle flame of hope.
